To capitalize on the enthusiasm triggered by the climate change conference on June 13, 2006, Université Total held two seminars on May 15th and June 19th entitled Climate Change: Scientific Developments and Main Challenges, in conjunction with E&P.

After an opening address by E&P's Senior Vice President, HSE, Jean-Yves Durieux, Hervé Le Treut, member of the French Academy of Science and director of the Dynamic Meteorology Laboratory (LMD) French National Scientific Research Center (CNRS) at Ecole Normale Supérieure, and Jean-Marc Jancovici, consultant engineer, Energy and Climate, talked about the scientific challenges and consequences of climate change.
French explorer Jean-Louis Etienne then outlined his Total Pole Airship expedition, which the Group is helping to finance, and Luc de Marliave, Climate Change Coordinator, Sustainable Development and Environment, presented Total's strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
In conclusion, Jean-François Minster, Senior Vice President, Scientific Development and Manoëlle Lepoutre, Research & Development, E&P, respectively in Paris and Pau, talked about the importance for Total of considering climate change, its consequences and its impact on the energy mix when making investment and development decisions.
